Understanding your mental health issues from the inside perspective
First responders are exposed to traumatic events that can lead to sleep issues, mood swings, isolation, substance abuse issues, nightmares and flashbacks. Working as a firefighter/paramedic myself, I have dealt with a lot of the demands that the job can cause including the stressors to family, relationships and personal demons which can cause problems in life and on the job. With over 30 years of experience as a first responder and experience in the mental health field since 2009, I blend both first-hand experience in highly stressful situations, as well as a background in mental health to help clients feel safe and understood. With this I bring my personal experience, empathy and critical thinking skills to all of my clients. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with a PhD in Community Psychology and hold a Masters degree in Forensic Psychology. I am very passionate about working with first responders, those experiencing trauma/PTSD and veterans, but also work with individuals, couples and families who need mental health treatment in a lot of different areas. I also have experience working with incarcerated individuals, substance abuse and domestic violence. Additional areas of specialization include men's issues, Adolescent issues, life adjustment changes, anger management issues, divorce and relationship loss and dual diagnosis.
